Director & Head Tutor
After decades of tutoring children with learning differences, Patty founded Reading Ready Inc. in memory of her daughter to support underserved communities in San Francisco. Based at Saint Brigid’s Academy, the program offers 45-minute sessions three mornings a week and has delivered outstanding results since the start of the 2024–25 school year. Patty holds a Lifetime California Credential, is Orton Gillingham trained in Slingerland and Wilson, and speaks fluent French.
Dr. Tom
Tutor
Dr. Tom comes to Reading Ready with decades of experience as a university professor as well as High School and English as a Second Language teacher. Each has prepared him for an in-depth understanding of both the essentiality of mastering the skill of reading as well as the individual approaches required to teach in the most effective manner. He interacts with each student as an individual — understanding the crucial importance of understanding the manner in which the student may best learn.
Meagan Cunningham
Administrator/Assistant Tutor
Meagan’s love for stories and languages has inspired a lifelong passion for drama and writing. Now, she’s proud to support Reading Ready’s mission to improve literacy. “Seeing a child gain reading and writing skills—and confidence—is a true joy. I hope we can share these effective methods with as many kids as possible!”
Reading Ready Origin
Reading Ready was founded to honor Sarah Lyon, a joyful and kind induvidual who believed every child no matter their means deserves the confidence that comes from mastering words. Our one-on-one tutoring keeps her spirit alive, opening doors for young readers who need it most.

Patty believes every child loves to learn — they just need the right support.
Many of her students once felt school wasn’t for them. Seeing their confidence grow inspired the creation of Reading Ready, a non-profit focused on early, personalized intervention. Helping these children has been one of the greatest joys of her life.
